ABOVE SELF

Our Meeting on Tuesday, October 17th will be Rotary on the Road.  This year we have 3 locations for you to choose from. There will be sign up sheets located on the front table at our meeting on October 10th.  If you are unable to attend our meeting please email Meghan at rotaryappleton@gmail.com and let her know which location you are attending.  Lunch will be provided by Honey Baked Ham.

Miller Electric, established by Niels Miller in 1929, has 1,500 employees in the Fox River Valley. From Miller’s first machine, built in his basement with recycled scrap steel and coil windings, to the world’s largest manufacturer of arc welding products, Miller is now owned by Illinois Tool Works (ITW). Miller Electric’s world headquarters is located on Spencer St and is the home of its R&D and sub-component manufacturing. The tour will focus on machining, sheet metal and welding fabrication, transformer and magnetic manufacturing, and other areas of the facility if time allows.

The Refuge is the former Monte Alverno monastery, built in 1935 by the Capuchin-Franciscan monks. Cory Chisel spearheaded the creation of the non-profit organization which provides unique opportunities for people of all ages to explore their creative expression. The 33,000 square foot facility is now home to a recording studio, film studio, the 91.1 radio station, space for wood and metal workshops, the beautiful chapel, artist residences and conference rooms on 10 acres of protected nature, gardens and orchards along the Fox River.

Jack Richeson and Co. This is a fascinating story fulfilling the American dream.  Jack Richeson started out as a salesman and built a business around working with artists, collecting their work and developing products to serve them.  Today, it is still a family run business as an international manufacturer and distributor of art supplies and fine art materials. It is also a high caliber educational institution, bringing guests artists to the area with international reputations to deliver multi-day high level workshops.  The gallery exhibits changing thematic competitive exhibitions and showcases, the personal collection built by Jack Richeson over his years of working with the artists.
